Alcohol, shellac
Raw materials scienceThis shellac is a product for professional users. The glossy finish with shellac clear varnish gives the surface of the furniture its original appearance and makes it look unique. The varnish can be used in a variety of ways: in instrument making, for transparent varnishing of wooden furniture interiors, for varnishing cabinet interiors, for drawers, children’s toys (fulfils DIN EN 71 Part 3 for the safety of children’s toys) or restoration of old furniture. The shellac is also available in a silk-matt version (No. 213).
The shellac can be diluted with vegetable alcohol No. 219. Regular care and consideration of the typical properties will result in long-lasting, individual pieces of lustre. Treated surfaces should be protected from the effects of strong light, heat and moisture.
Find out more about the extraction of shellac as a raw material, take a look into our pots during the production of the varnish and see how it is used in practice by a violin maker on our website www.auro-classic-edition.de.
Brush quickly and evenly in the direction of the wood fibres with a wide, soft flat brush, adding up to 20 % AURO Plant alcohol No. 219 if necessary. When used as a polish, a higher dilution rate may be recommended depending on the application method.
When spraying, variations in spraying, air pressure and nozzle size are possible depending on the method and practical experience. Do not apply too thickly or in a floating manner, otherwise the shellac will not dry properly.
